Enapter powers up for 2024 – all the latest from an exciting new year
We’re going to keep this newsletter short and snappy. Not because it’s been a quiet start to the year but because we assume that you, like the Enapter team, have hit the ground running and have plenty to do! Nevertheless, we’ve got quite some news and use cases to share, so let’s get cracking.

Next AEM Nexus out for delivery
We’re excited to share that our second AEM Nexus 1000 multi-core electrolyser is currently in the process of being delivered. In December, it arrived at the Enapter Campus in Saerbeck for its pre-commissioning, which included:
- Final construction works including piping
- Electrical and software-related tasks
- Testing liquid circuits and gas pipes
- Preparations for dispatch of its 420 AEM Stack modules
Now, this containerised large-scale AEM Electrolyser is on its way to the customer, siz energieplus. It will contribute to the German multi-purpose research project at Technische Universität Braunschweig’s and siz energieplus’s Hydrogen Terminal. The final commissioning of the MW-sized system will then take place together with our integration partner H2 Core Systems GmbH.

Sebastian steps aside as CEO, Jürgen & Gerrit to lead Enapter AG
Enapter co-founder and CEO Sebastian-Justus Schmidt ended the year sharing the news that he was resigning from his CEO and Enapter board positions for personal reasons. Sebastian, who started Enapter in 2017, is based in Thailand and will continue to be available to Enapter as an advisor.
The CEO position is now in the safe and experienced hands of Dr. Jürgen Laakmann, who took office as CEO of Enapter alongside Sebastian in July 2023. The Enapter executive board now consists of Jürgen and Enapter CFO Gerrit Kaufhold.
We are thankful to Sebastian for all his efforts and great vision in making Enapter what it is today and are glad to continue to draw on his expertise as we move forward, excellently positioned for further growth.
Enapter expands to USA with Solar Invest
Enapter is entering the US market via a cooperation agreement with Solar Invest International, marking another important milestone in our growth strategy. This will support and further accelerate sales activities in the USA, one of the fastest-growing markets when it comes to renewable energy in combination with hydrogen.
Solar Invest International plans to build a distribution network for Enapter products and has received an exclusive distribution license from us. For this, Enapter will receive a total of 25 million euros over a period of 14 months.
Together we want to commercialize AEM technology in the USA. By concluding this agreement, we are implementing our strategy of building international partnerships consistently and as planned – and this partnership can be considered a blueprint for our further expansion strategy.
Latin America also – new use case in Brazil
We’ve also expanded our reach in Latin America thanks to a new Brazilian green H2 project which aims to help decarbonise the Amazon – where the use of dirty diesel predominates.
The Federal University of Santa Catarina started the cooperation project with GIZ, The German Agency for International Cooperation. It aims to prove the concept of a green H2 production plant powered by PV energy and its use in the production of electricity by a fuel cell that can be replicated and expanded in a general way in any region – and especially in remote villages of the Amazon.
UFSC’s Solar Energy and Green Hydrogen Laboratory uses nine of our single-core AEM Electrolysers to produce onsite green hydrogen for the project, as well as our dryers for reaching 99.999% H2 purity.

Hylife Innovation behind-the-scenes part 2
We recently visited our partner Hylife Innovations in the Netherlands to get an update on their InnovaHub energy storage & grid balancing project, which draws on 30 AEM Electrolysers.
They are making great progress on the system, which will soon produce decentralised green hydrogen on the Dutch island of Goeree-Overflakkee, providing a residential district in Stad aan‘t Haringvliet with renewable electricity, heat, and cooling.
Watch Part 2 of our behind-the-scenes video series to see their latest developments as Hylife Innovation gets ready to deploy.
As a quick reminder, you can see Part 1 of this video here.
And if you also have a green hydrogen project in mind, reach out to us or our integration partners.
